Nestled in the foothills of a majestic rocky mountain formation southwest of Phoenix, AZ, this project unfolds in a serene, flat area that invites tranquility. The vision for this design is to create a residential complex that not only meets the needs of its residents but also enhances their comfort and quality of life. Picture a community of townhouses gracefully aligned in an east-west direction, basking in the natural beauty surrounding them. In addition to cozy living spaces, the complex will offer both sports utility and coworking spaces, creating an environment where residents can thrive both physically and socially. This harmonious blend of amenities aims to foster a vibrant community spirit, making it an ideal place to call home.
The design of this project embodies a bold and rational approach, striving to achieve maximum efficiency while minimizing the impact on the built environment. A striking series of parallel walls elegantly delineates the 15 home units, creating a harmonious and organized community space. The north and south facades feature innovative perforated mesh, enhanced by openable folding panels at each window, allowing residents to connect with the outdoors and adapt their living space to their preferences.
At the heart of each residential unit lies a central courtyard, a thoughtful addition that fosters natural ventilation and bathes the interiors with sunlight. This inviting space is a communal garden, encouraging neighbours to gather and enjoy the fresh air.
Each of the two-storey homes is designed with comfort and practicality in mind. They boast two spacious bedrooms, a covered car park for added convenience, a patio, and a private terrace oriented to the south, perfect for soaking up the sun. This thoughtful layout blends functionality with a sense of community, offering a unique and pleasant living experience.
Beyond the residential units, we envisioned a vibrant sports utility block as a hub of activity and wellness. At the heart of this design is a state-of-the-art gym, complemented by convenient restrooms. On the top floor, an open-air swimming pool glistens invitingly, positioned perfectly to the east to embrace the refreshing morning light. Its foldable canvas cover adds a touch of practicality, shading the pool from the midday sun while enhancing the overall aesthetic.
To the north, a multipurpose building emerges, designed for both productivity and leisure. Here, individuals can find serene co-working spaces, cosy relaxation areas, and function rooms equipped for various events. This building is an oasis of community, where entertainment and collaboration intertwine.
Adjacent to this bustling centre lies a well-planned visitors’ car park, accommodating up to 15 vehicles. This thoughtful addition ensures that guests have a convenient place to park as they join in the activities and ambiance of this lively space. Each design element creates a harmonious environment that encourages a healthy, active lifestyle while fostering community connections.
In a vision of harmony with the environment, the area is adorned with a beautifully minimal landscape that captures the essence of the desert. Local flora species flourish amidst the carefully placed installations of cacti and rocks, embracing the spirit of the land. This thoughtful design not only highlights the natural beauty of the desert but also serves a practical purpose—conserving precious water resources and minimising maintenance costs. Each element has been selected with intention, creating a serene and sustainable oasis that speaks to the soul of the desert.
